It’s been just over a year since I’ve been on a plane, or anywhere for that matter, so you could say that a vacation is LONG overdue! I’m SO excited about this one – we’re surprising my little bro with a trip to Vegas this weekend, whoop!! He’s on his way to my place as I’m writing this and I’m getting kind of nervous! Also kind of surprised that he hasn’t caught on yet, hehe. I’ve been asking him to bring me random things – like a charger for my battery pack and his US SIM card LOL. Love it when a guy just does what I tell them to do, no questions asked.
How did I pull it off? It was definitely a collaborative effort between his friends, his girlfriend (who I’m meeting for the first time today!), my mother-in-law, my parents and my seven year old son, Jadon.
Yup, you read that right. My seven year old son.
My brother had started dating his girlfriend about a month ago, which is also when we started planning this trip. I was hearing through the grapevine that the relationship was really taking off, so I decided to take a chance and invite her. But no one had her contact details – no number and no social media deets. Good thing we were going over to my parents for Thanksgiving dinner that weekend! I told Jadon I needed his help and that it obviously needed his super spy skills. He looked at me like I was crazy and I told him he better not tell Uncle James or else! Jadon is amazing at keeping surprises and followed through with our plan as if he does it on the daily. Wait, maybe he does? Anyways, I told Jadon to hack into my bro’s phone (he has the password) and I would do the rest. I quickly scrolled through his contacts, found his girlfriends name, snapped a photo on my phone and erased all evidence that would point back to me (or that someone had been in his phone). See? Super sleuth skills over here. And, no, I don’t do this on the daily either.
Next step was to book the trip. A private Facebook message was sent out to his friends all while my bother was busy planning his house party at our new place. I convinced him to have it the week after (everyone’s busy Halloween weekend, right?!) and we had the green light. Vegas was booked! Now we just needed to pack a bag for him and get his passport. Somehow.
Of course, we had a few hiccups along the way. My car broke down earlier this week and I had left all my errands for the last minute. I made my dad drive me around yesterday on my brother’s actual birthday, just so I could get last minute trip things and finish finding things for the kids’ Halloween costumes. Thanks, bro, for letting me do this on your 30th. You must think I’m so selfish LOL.
Thankfully, bro moved some boxes with clothes in it yesterday so I packed what I could. Why you didn’t bring more Summer clothes over, I have no idea, but I tried my best! And I got his friend to steal his passport earlier this week while they were on a trip together. Mission accomplished!
So I’m waiting here now for my brother to arrive and for hubby’s car to get fixed (yes, two cars down in one week) and then off we go! What am I bringing, you ask? Here are a few of my must-have travel essentials:
Many thanks to my mother-in-law for taking care of the kids, so hubby and I could pull off this surprise and also have some much needed alone time! Also, thanks to my dad for sneaking into my bro’s room to get some of his daily necessities. We make a great team, haha!
